For your viewing pleasure, we have a nice collection of signs from the the area surrounding the town of Apex, which boasts itself as "The Peak of Good Living." Pictures in this set also include outlying areas such as New Hill and Friendship, as well as thhe US 64 corridor.
Also of note, I also have links to maps for each of the sites I have visited and taken pictures. If you're interested in forming a little "sign hunting trip" of your own, these maps will come quite handy. One thing to keep in mind is that the maps represent the approximate locations, so please make sure to be careful if you are driving and wish to partake in this.
| Sign | Location | Description |
| Fire Lane sign [Just Added] | Hunter St. @ W. Chatham St.; just off NC Hwy. 55 [Map] | Recent growth in the area was enough for the local fire department to erect these rather attractive signs. Quite simple, and to the point indeed. |
| Handicapped Parking on Sunday sign [Just Added] | Salem St. @ Holleman St., next to Apex Baptist Church [Map] | These parking spaces serve a different purpose on Sunday mornings. Needless to day, they're a godsend to the older or handicapped parishoners who come. |
| School Zone sign [Just added] | Town Side Dr. @ Preservation Lane, just off Apex Barbecue Rd. [Map] | This sign indicates to homeowners that traffic can be heavy at times during the school day. Only difference is that a parochial school, instead of a public school, is nearby to serve those in the greater community. |
| Small Duck Crossing sign | Center St. @ Crown Pointe Blvd. [Map] | Fortunately, this sign will never be confused with a dinner special at a Chinese restaurant. Even in the middle of an office park, those webbed-footed creatures still manage to run amok. |
| Blind Child sign | Old US 1 @ Lash Lee Way, New Hill [Map] | Like a scene from an old novel, this rather unassuming rural crossroads does present quite an oddity. Even so, it wouldn't be a bad idea to slow down whenever children are present since one in particular can't see. |
| Old Dead End Street sign | Center St. @ Keith St. [Map] | This sign is quite old indeed. The back of this sign is the same as on the front, quite a rarity in these here parts. Still, it's managed to hold up quite well over time. |
| Stop & Look Railroad Crossing sign | Horton Rd., near Family Ranch Rd.; New Hill [Map] | The railroad tracks that cross this particular road are owned by the New Hope Valley Railroad, a private organization composed of mostly railroad enthusiasts. This section of rail used to be part of a line that ran from the tiny crossroads community of Bonsal near the Wake/Chatham county line to the American Tobacco manufacturing facility in downtown Durham. Rides take place on the first Sunday of the month from May to December, and also offer special rides for Halloween and Christmas. [NHVRR Information]. |
