Granville County Signs

Here are some signs from Granville County, or the Research Triangle's northern outpost. Its prime location along I-85 and proximity to the Triangle makes Granville County a major industrial hub for the region. In addition, the southern part of the county is home to a number of state and federal government agencies. The rural landscape even offers a nice respite from the hectic environment of the bigger cities nearby.

Sign Location Description
Red and white Pedestrian Crossing sign [Just Added] Hillsboro St. @ Bank St. (US 15/NC Hwy. 96 & US 158 Business), Oxford [Map] Even though this particular side-street is for those motorists seeking a parking place downtown, they still need to heed those who travel by foot. Very unusual color design, makes it stick out more.
Hunter Campground sign Highland Dr. @ "B" St., Butner [Map] This neighborhood abuts the Falls Lake watershed and may have served a different purpose at some point. Given the influx of new housing in the area, it's doubtful any sort of activity like this would take place today.
River Paddle Trail sign Old NC 75 @ Tar River crossing, between SR 1155 & 1160, Providence community [Map] These signs were established by a regional Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D) agency to promote the preservation of natural resources. Getting folks to take a canoe or rafting trip down the river is one way to see that firsthand.
Gray and Black street name sign assemblage Peace St. @ Person St., Oxford [Map] This probably has to be one of the oldest set of street identifiers left standing in town. Its markings and designs certainly do harken back to a more simpler era.
Old Vehicle Maximum Load Capacity sign Hillsboro St. @ Church St., across from Elmwood Cemetery; Oxford [Map] This very old sign displays the fraction by using a vertical line instead of the forward slash to separate the numerator (3) from its denominator (4). Very old school, yet still functional.
Roadside Mailbox sign US 15 @ Will Suitt Rd., Northside community [Map] Now here's a novel idea. In the unlikely event that you forget to drop off your mail, you can take care of that little errand before you head into town or go fishing out at Falls Lake nearby.
Congested Area sign High St. @ Raleigh St., Oxford [Map] This rather unassuming residential street does receive its share of traffic woes, since a number of cars tend to park along the sides. That in itself can be a problem for those who happen to live here.
No Thru Fare sign Main St. @ Cemetery St, Creedmoor [Map] This doesn't necessarily mean that you can't get thru without paying a fare. It's just another way of saying that it's a dead end street. This has to the the only sign of its kind around here.
Reduce Speed near Playground sign Williamsboro St. (US 158 Business) @ Belle St., Oxford [Map] So many words to read on this particular sign. Yet, the overall message is especially important as you approach the playground and recreational area nearby.
Tally Ho Road sign Main St. @ Tally Ho Rd., Stem [Map] This has to be the only known street sign around here that has the directionals attached to it.
Old No Trucks sign North St. @ E. Church St., Creedmoor [Map] The sign may look worn and weathered, but it still does serve a purpose. That is especially true with the amount of traffic generated by the Christian Faith Center church about two or three blocks away.
Railroad Crossing with Crossroads sign College St. @ Prospect Ave., Oxford [Map] This sign was augmented to alert the motorist of a busy railroad crossing that is situated near a busy intersection. The Granville Medical Center is located nearby as well.
Goshen Street street name sign goof Goshen St. @ Clement Ave., Oxford [Map] Notice that the letters for the Street abbreviation have been switched around erroneously. No doubt this mistake looks rather tsupid [my misspelling not necessarily intentional].
Caution Emergency sign Elm St. @ Lyon St., Creedmoor [Map] These particular warning signs aren't quite so easy to spot. However, you should heed notice to them, since the town's volunteer fire department and EMT station is located nearby.
