East Durham Signs

For your perusal are some mighty fine street sign pictures from East Durham. This area covers the East Durham, Gorman, and Oak Grove communities, or the area between I-85 and US 70 at the eastern end of the county.

Also of note, I also have links to maps for each of the sites I have visited and taken pictures. If you're interested in forming a little "sign hunting trip" of your own, these maps will come quite handy. One thing to keep in mind is that the maps represent the approximate locations, so please make sure to be careful if you are driving and wish to partake in this.

Sign Location Description
Road Closed sign [NEW] Boyce Mill Rd. @ Wake Forest Hwy. (NC Hwy. 98), Falls Lake Area [Map] Normally, these signs would be found in areas where a section of road is closed off for construction work. In this case, it would be the road being cut off by Falls Lake itself in order to preserve natural areas nearby.
Church Parking sign Hillview Dr. @ Wake Forest Hwy., next to Edgewood Baptist Church; Oak Grove [Map] The parishoners of this church must have a number of people who camp out at nearby Falls Lake come over for Sunday worship. It's too bad their parking lot isn't big enough for the campers' specialized means of transport that they bring along.
Marbrey Landing signs Armitage Dr. @ Stallings Rd., Oak Grove [Map] This subdivision won't settle for your average run-on-the-mill signs. They went on ahead and made these simple signs with a cream-colored background and fancy green text their very own.
Crossroads sign with Street Information Wake Forest Hwy. @ Oak Grove Pkwy., Oak Grove [Map] What's great about this sign setup is at least you have an idea of which street goes where. That way you won't have to rely on the green street signs alone to figure out which way to turn.
Red Caution sign Vair St. @ Mineral Springs Rd. [Map] No doubt motorists driving through here will pay extra special attention to kids play outside. The rather interesting choice of color for this sign helps out a whole lot.
Sharp Lane Drop sign Wake Forest Hwy. @ Nichols Farm Rd., Oak Grove [Map] Hwy. 98 drops back from a four-lane road to a two-lane road at this juncture. The change is made even more drastic in design since it takes both left and right turn lanes leading into a major subdivision into account.
T-intersection sign Red Mill Rd. @ Gorman Church Rd., Gorman community [Map] T-intersection signs are awfully rare in these parts. The main reason for this one is that the intersection in question is located just past the railroad tracks located in the background, which is rather difficult to spot easily.
Teacher Parking sign Briggs Ave. @ E. Main St., adjacent to Y.E. Smith Science & Tech. Magnet School [Map] This very old sign dates back to when this was a regular elementary school in the former Durham City School system. The parking lot at the end of this alley is still pretty much reserved for teachers only, away from the other traffic that is commonly present in the front of the building.
Left Turn with Speed sign Camden Ave. @ Colonial St., next to Durham Church of Christ [Map] Camden Avenue only has one-way access from Avondale Drive up to this spot. If you're headed towards that particular street, you would have to hang a rather sharp left onto Colonial before you reach the stoplight. Good thing too, since Avondale has a reputation for being badly clogged during rush hour.
